Leo Poblano Shalako Inlay Ring
Vintage 1940s Leo Poblano Inlay Ring. Zuni Shalako Kachina
Sterling silver with American turquoise, Jet and Shell.
Inlay work is most closely associated with Zuni silversmiths and draws on lapidary traditions that predate European contact, involving stones precisely cut and set into silver to form mosaic patterns.
This piece incorporates a Katsina, a spirit being central to Hopi and Pueblo religious life, serving as an intermediary between humans and the divine and sending prayers for rain, harvest and prosperity.
Dating from the late nineteenth to mid twentieth century, made entirely by hand using traditional techniques developed across the Navajo, Zuni and Hopi nations.
Size V ½.
Code: MT6013.
